Just like us, dogs don’t need a lot of treats; but it doesn’t mean we don’t need an occasional something to satisfy our sweet tooth. Whether you’re using a sweet treat as a reward for obedience, or just to show a little extra love to your pup, you’ll want to make sure the treat has some health benefits, too. And if you can make an natural snack that you like too, that’s just an added bonus! Sweet potato jerky is as simple as it is satisfying.
Select 3 to 5 sweet potatoes per batch of jerky you would like to make. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 225’ F. Scrub the sweet potatoes, cutting of any parts of the skin that might be brown or discolored. Cut the potatoes lengthwise into 1/2” strips, keeping in mind the thinner the strips, the more jerky you will get out of each potato.
Bake the potato strips for 3 to 4 hours, checking the crispiness of the strips after 3 hours. Once removed from the oven, the strips should cool prior to being stored. You can store them in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. (If you ask nicely, your dog may be willing to share with you too! :))
Please let us know in the comments how your dog enjoys this treat!
