Spring Shedding Driving Your Dog Crazy?

5 ways to control shedding

Unless you have a hairless breed, shedding is just another part of owning a pet. That doesn’t mean you have to deal with excessive shedding all over your home. There are a few things you can do to take control over the shedding and keep more of the hair on your pet instead of your furniture!

Regular Brushing

Purchase a pet brush that not only takes care of surface hair, but the undercoat too (specifically for long haired pets.) Try to brush your pet daily or at least every other day to drastically reduce shedding.

Regular Baths

Bathing your pet helps remove loose hair and dander while soothing their skin. This reduces how much they shed. For optimal results, use shampoos and conditioners formulated for shed control.

Our earthbath Shed Control Shampoo contains ingredients, such as omega-6 fatty acids, shea butter, green tea leaf extract, and more natural ingredients to restore their skin’s natural pH balance. This powerful blend cleanses skin gently and rejuvenates coats, reducing shedding and dander.

Combine this with our earthbath Shed Control Conditioner for optimal results. This vegetable-based formula amps up the shed control so you’re not always left with a lap full of hair.

Change Their Diet

If your pet seems to be shedding more than normal, their diet could be to blame. Consider a high quality pet food with Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils, which are believed to improve skin health and reduce shedding. Like with humans, healthier food usually leads to healthier pets. Pets with food sensitivities or allergies may also experience diet-related shedding. Be sure to check with your vet before making dietary changes.

Eliminate Fleas

The more your pet digs at fleas and flea bites, the more they’ll shed. No one wants to have to deal with fleas, so apply a flea treatment on a regular basis. Make sure you buy the appropriate one for your pet. For instance, cats cannot, under any circumstances, use flea treatments designed for dogs.

Groom between Baths

If you’re short on time and not able to bathe your pet once per week, another good option is to use pet wipes or waterless shampoo to help remove loose fur. Our line of earthbath grooming wipes and grooming foam are gentle on the skin and freshen your pet’s coat in between washes. They’re ideal for quick baths on the go and to ease shedding while your pet’s riding in the car.
